What is RPG?
Role Playing Game - Role-Playing - better known by the acronym RPG, is the union of the concept of theater with the rules of a game, where we have the interpretation of fictional characters controlled by their respective player.
In theater, actors decorate your script - set of actions, gestures, speech ... - Interpret and fictional characters, the plot following pre-defined by the author. In a game, people make decisions limited by the rules, to overcome challenges, be better than their opponents and win the game. When it unites the best of these two universes, we have the RPG.
RPG is a game, basically a group of people, where one assumes the role of "narrator" - some people still use the term "master" - and the others are players. To enrich the game, add some system books of your own, without rules because the narrator will not convince the players of the direction taken by the story.
Before departure, the narrator will guide players - always following the rules of the system chosen - to fill in the form of the character. It covers the essential information such as strength, endurance, intelligence, information about the personality, skills, among others. All players already have their characters ...? Then it's time to tell the narrator an introduction to the adventure, to educate players about what happened up there, and finally give them a basic goal that will trigger the beginning of the adventure.
The events are being narrated, players follow imagining everything that happens. And when a character needs to take action ...? The player in question tells the narrator what to do and to see whether this approach is viable - based on the character sheet - and then the data are played. Depending on the value obtained, the act is carried out successfully or not.
The data are fundamental building blocks in an RPG, and they are not limited to data from six traditional sides. There is a variety, some more rare and used only for certain systems, and may be called by the letter "D" followed by the number of sides. Thus, we have given to the eight sides, the name D8 as well as the data of 12 sides, the name D12.
Not to limit the amount of characters to the number of players, there is often many characters controlled by the narrator. They are known as NPC - acronym for Non-Player Character. They serve to enhance the story, giving useful information to the characters or to disrupt their lives, serving as adversaries.
Each session is an RPG experience. It is impossible to have full control of the narrator of the story, because you never know what players will decide the face of adversity created along the way. After certain events, the narrator will distribute experience points for the characters - based on the rules of the system - allowing them to evolve their attributes, making the game more interesting.
